Emotions
What are they?
One coach told me that they are just vibrations in your body triggered by your thoughts.
Really?
They feel like so much more.
They feel so powerful.
Yet apparently, they are simply indicators of how I am choosing to think
But I learned that it is very difficult to change my thinking before I have really processed my feelings.
What does it even mean when I feel like I am feeling my feelings ALL THE TIME!
Processing emotions, really feeling my feelings, often takes times and attention to what they are telling me.
I actually resist emotions more than process them
I don’t really like feeling sad, disappointed, angry, anxious…
So, I buffer with food, drink, scrolling FB etc
That gives temporary relief but doesn’t truly solve anything.
Processing an emotion means choosing to notice what is really going on.
It means slowing down enough to notice where it is in my body, what it is telling me and how I need to express it.
I often process by journaling, crying, or talking to a trusted friend.
In essence, I feel my feelings until I notice a sense of release. Usually, a sigh of relief happens.
And then can I get clarity to renew my thoughts.
Learning to identify and process feelings by yourself can be daunting and even a bit scary.
I have often worked with my coach to help me when I feel stuck.
If you feel stuck in negative thought spirals and overwhelming feelings, I would love to talk with you about how coaching can help.
