I’m Ali, The K–3 Tutoring Teacher! While teaching swimming lessons to elementary-aged students as a teenager, I had my first experience being a part of a child’s “aha” moment when a student mastered a particular stroke after weeks of practice. That life-changing experience made me realize I wanted to be part of students’ victories in my career! I entered the world of education and graduated with a

Sometimes what parents see on the surface isn’t always the real problem.

A child who avoids reading may be feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, embarrassed, or discouraged long before they have the words to explain it.

Over time, kids begin protecting themselves from those feelings by avoiding books, resisting practice, or deciding that they simply “hate reading.”

That’s why I encourage families to look beyond motivation and ask a different question:

What is making reading feel so difficult?

When we can answer that question, we can begin building the skills, confidence, and success needed to make reading feel more manageable and often much more enjoyable.

Many parents hear terms like “structured literacy,” “explicit phonics instruction,” and “science of reading,” but aren’t always told what those approaches actually mean for a child struggling with reading or spelling.

In an Orton-Gillingham Approach lesson, skills are taught directly, systematically, and step by step so children can build strong decoding, spelling, and reading skills over time.

Instead of guessing words from pictures or memorizing patterns, students learn:

• how sounds connect to letters
• how to break apart unfamiliar words
• spelling rules and phonics patterns
• syllable types and decoding strategies
• how to apply these skills independently while reading

This type of structured reading intervention is especially important for students with dyslexia, reading difficulties, spelling challenges, or students who need more explicit support than they’re receiving in school.

Struggling readers are bright kids who simply need reading instruction taught in a more systematic and explicit way.

If you’re a parent trying to better understand why your child is struggling with reading, decoding, fluency, or spelling, you’re not alone, and there is a clear path forward!

If you’ve noticed your child:
🚨 Skipping words while reading
🚨 Guessing based on the first letter or pictures
🚨 Struggling to sound out or blend words, even after phonics instruction…it's time for more than just extra reading at home.

These clues can signal gaps in phonics instruction. Students need explicit, structured instruction that teaches them how to read.

That’s where the Orton-Gillingham approach comes in—a proven, science-backed method that teaches kids how to read through structured, multisensory lessons. Students don’t rely on guessing. They’re taught to read using clear, step-by-step strategies that connect sounds to letters and patterns to meaning. This builds real confidence as they break down words, recognize patterns, and become fluent, capable readers.

Whether your child is struggling with decoding, spelling, reading fluency, or comprehension, I offer:
✔️ Reading intervention
✔️ Dyslexia support
✔️ Literacy evaluations
✔️ Early literacy lessons
✔️ Homeschool enrichment
