Greenwood Lake UFSD Celebrates $206,000 in State Funding Secured by Senator Skoufis
Greenwood Lake Union Free School District is celebrating $206,000 in state funding secured by Senator James Skoufis that will directly support students through a new playground and the restoration of extracurricular and educational experiences.
The funding includes a $150,000 CREST grant that made possible the purchase and installation of a new playground designed specifically for the District’s Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students at Greenwood Lake Elementary. The new playground provides a dedicated space for students to play, explore, develop social skills, and build relationships while enjoying time outdoors.
“We are incredibly grateful to Senator Skoufis for his investment in our students and our community,” said Superintendent Sarah Hadden. “This funding made a beautiful new playground possible for our youngest students and will also help us restore opportunities that were impacted by our difficult budget process. It is a wonderful example of what can happen when our schools and our elected officials work together to put children first.”
In addition to the playground funding, the District received $56,000 in special aid funds, which will be used to restore student clubs and field trip opportunities.
“This funding makes a real difference in the lives of our students,” said Board of Education member Michael Emsworth. “These are the experiences that our students remember.”
For Greenwood Lake Elementary Principal Stephanie Melo-Ramos, the new playground represents a meaningful investment in the District’s youngest students. “This playground was designed with our Pre-K and Kindergarten students in mind, giving them a safe and welcoming space to play, explore, build relationships, and simply be kids,” said Melo-Ramos.
