Please help us welcome our new art teacher! 🎨

Hi, I'm Thayer Berry! I am a lifelong Greenville resident and have spent more than 25 years sharing my love of art with children. I earned a B.A. in Art History from the College of Charleston and later pursued graduate studies in Art Education at Converse College. After teaching at Grove Elementary and First Presbyterian Kindergarten, I found my home at Augusta Circle Elementary, where I have taught for the past 20 years. Helping children discover their creativity and confidence through art has been one of the greatest joys of my life.

As I begin this new chapter, I am excited to continue teaching part-time at King’s Classical School while also offering private art classes and workshops. I look forward to sharing the joy of creating with students in new ways.

My husband, Byron, and I have five wonderful children: Christopher, Caroline, Griffin, Lila, and Spencer. Our family is growing with the addition of our daughter-in-law, Mollie, son-in-law, Adam, and our first grandchild!

When I'm not teaching or creating art, I enjoy spending time with my family, cheering on Clemson football, and traveling.

What a sweet evening of fellowship at our Back-to-School Bash! 💙

It was such a joy to have our KCS families together as we celebrated the start of a new school year, caught up with old friends, made new ones, and welcomed new families into our KCS community. We are so thankful for the Lord’s provision and for the wonderful families who make KCS such a special place.

We’re looking forward to all that He has in store for this school year! ✨

Meet our incoming music teacher, Mrs. Shaya Zauner! 🎼

I’m originally from Washington State and hold a Bachelor of Music degree from Biola University and a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. During my time in New York, I was actively involved in the local and regional music community and performed with Buffalo Opera Unlimited. I also love performing musical theater, classic country, and jazz, and I’ve enjoyed frequent collaborations with pops symphonies and jazz festivals. For more than 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching voice to students of all ages, experience levels, and musical goals. In recent years, I’ve also served as a choral director for adult choirs and taught music appreciation, choral singing, and music theory at an independent K–12 school. Currently, I teach voice, beginning piano, and Music Together classes for infants and toddlers at Sounds of Carolina Music Academy.

My husband, Trevor, and I were married this July, and we’re delighted to be making our home in Greenville with our two cats, Charlie Chaplin and India.

Join us in welcoming our K5 teacher, Mrs. Beard! 📣

My name is Mary Iris Beard. I am excited to be joining KCS and sharing my love of learning with K5 this year! I grew up as a missionary kid in Africa, and God used my immersion in such a unique environment to cultivate my love for nature and for people. I majored in Early Childhood Education at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, and have had the opportunity of teaching preschoolers and third graders in both private and public settings.

I am a mother to three wonderful little girls ages 9, 6, and almost 1. You can usually find me with them having a tea party, playing backyard baseball, or anything involving water! Parenting and teaching little minds, hearts, and fingers are teaching me how intricate and special the Lord has designed each individual.

I have the pleasure of watching the Lord’s gifts show up in each student as they are supported and encouraged to do their best and honor the Lord in all they say and do.

Only 7 days until we're reunited! But who's counting? 🤭 We can't wait to welcome everyone back!
