Spring is almost here & the ground is PLASTIC, but we out here! 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

Roadside litter, often in the form of fast-food trash, lures woodland creatures big and small. As I pick near wooded areas I can see the plastic and styrofoam containers pulled deeper into the bush. Animals lured to traffic can create dangerous situations for themselves and the humans zipping by in vehicles 🏴‍☠️

When I was younger I thought Greenpeace USA was extreme. Back then I didn’t realize how extreme and complex some environmental problems are. It hasn’t taken too much digging over my litter picking years to discover that Keep America Beautiful’s largest donors are big oil. 4ocean is cozy with mega plastic polluters like Coca-Cola, so is Litterati, so is TerraCycle. These orgs don’t talk bottle return bills or bag bans. They don’t support a plastic free July, they don’t support refill options. They don’t support a Global Plastic Treaty. They are not extreme. They distract from a true solution.

The actual solution to litter and littering is complex and it definitely involves plastic regulation. This is something Greenpeace has been shouting from the rooftops for years while others, like those I called-out above, have remained loudly silent.

The oil company that is currently suing Greenpeace made 82 billion dollars last year. Please spread the word and support Greenpeace and what they stand for 🏴‍☠️

Woodland creatures are often drawn to the road by litter. I almost always see fast food trash pulled deeper into the woods from the roadside. Being so close to the road is bad for them and bad for those traveling by car—aka your spouse, your kids, your parents, your family, you 🏴‍☠️
