How do we positively impact rural communities and ENC? Data supports! The Duke Endowment
The Fresh Start program proved to improve food literacy and significantly increase consumption of fruits, vegetables and whole grains among participants. The program, directed by Dr. Lauren Sastre with other CHHS contributors, brings healthy food ingredients to communities and shows underinsured patients with Type 2 diabetes how to maximize their nutritional value.

Dr. Shana Harrington, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy, served as Chief Classifier recently at the Jimi Flowers Classic, hosted by U.S. Paralympics Swimming at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. This annual competition honors James "Jimi" Flowers, a longtime coach, mentor and leader whose impact on the sport continues to be felt on deck and in the water.
Harrington noted that the level of talent in Para swimming keeps rising, classification works best as a team effort, and events like this are successful because of the coaches, officials, volunteers and staff who are instrumental behind the scenes.
