Can you tell I tend to like snares tuned down pretty low?

Here’s all the snares from my last post!

I think some of them sound pretty similar, but when you listen on monitors (or with headphones), you can definitely hear the nuance in each different drum. The Acro has this really tight and defined thud. The 14x5 Supra is splatty and kinda sounds roomy, even though there are no room mics in this recording. The Black Beauty has this really nice mid-range crack, but still has enough low and high end. Lastly, the 14x6.5 Supra has these BEAUTIFUL overtones that remind me so much of Tonight Alive’s record “What Are You So Scared Of” (go look it up).

Why do I have so many snares?? It ALLLLL depends on the song. These are 4 of the 20 snare drums I own, and that’s why! Gotta make sure the song is getting the best snare sound possible. Hit me up if you want some reaaaaally good sounding drums on your record.

ALSO, I’ll Venmo $1 to the first person to comment and tell me what song I’m playing.

|| The Twins and The Cousins ||

These 4 are my go-to’s when recording drums. No wonder they’re the most recorded snare drums in the world.

Keep reading to see what they are and where I like them tuned!

From top to bottom:
* 14x6.5 Black Beauty: tuned right in the middle. Plenty of crack and plenty of low end. I ended up putting diecast hoops on this one to give it just a touch more crack and tame some of the brass overtones.
* 14x5 Acrolite from 1965: this one is tuned LOOOOOWWW. There’s also S-Hoops on this one. Don’t ask me why. I just had them laying around and wanted something different. It sounds different than any acro I’ve ever heard.
* 14x5 Supraphonic from 1970: this one is tuned kinda low, but not as low as the acro. It has a lot of body for a 5” deep snare.
* 14x6.5 Supraphonic: I typically tune this one up pretty high. It’s my favorite pop-punk cracky and ringy snare.

Have you ever used one of these? And which one is your fav?

With the way that 2020 has gone... well it’s been a struggle for most, myself included. I haven’t been on this page in a while because honestly, I didn’t have the energy for it. I’m sorry for leaving you all hanging (if you actually care about that stuff). Here’s the deal though... the wheels have been turning, and tomorrow I have a big surprise... so STAY TUNED, but until then, here’s a picture Layla at the studio.

I haven’t been on socials in a few days because me and the boys in locked ourselves away to track a new ep. I try to be 100% present and not playing on my phone while working, and that’s the same thing you can expect from me if I work on your project! You’ll have my 100% undivided attention to get the best possible product. Let’s make some music together! 📸: &

Spent most of the day cleaning up from a long 2 week session! A messy studio is a busy studio, BUT a clean studio is a happy studio.
