Big Red Apple 🍎

I love this new-to-me fall apple song by Stephanie Leavell of Music for Kiddos! It has all the fun and benefits of fingerplays, plus plenty of space for imagination and creation by the children! What kind of apple treat should we make next?

Bicycle Bicycle 🚲

Here’s a throwback reel to one of our littles’ favorites. This one is the perfect blend of engaging, playful, and educational. You can also easily adapt this one for older kiddos, but more on that later!

Eye contact, movement, rhythm, and connection all help this simple song do so much: building gross motor strength, body awareness, developing language through repetition, and creating that precious bonding moment between you and your baby. 🚲

Tap Your Toes ⏰

A simple transition song that’s straightforward and practical. Routines like these help kids know exactly what to do and what is coming. The movements help burn off a little energy before sitting, and the song signals the transition clearly. No confusion, just clear expectations and a little movement in between.

Try it with your kiddos and let me know how it goes! ⏰

Dinosaurs Had Fun 🦖

This one’s a playful dinosaur song set to the tune of “This Old Man.” The heavy beats and stomping are grounding and satisfying for little ones, and the simple rhythmic pattern helps kids feel settled and present. Also, dinosaurs are always a hit! 🦕

A Tiny Apple Seed 🌱

Here’s a sweet little song about growth.

This one is great for exploring nature, seasons, and the patience it takes for things to grow. The familiar melody makes it easy for little ones to follow along and sing, and it can be so magical to imagine the way a tiny seed becomes a big, strong apple tree! 🌱

Candles on the Cake 🧁

This one is a popular counting down and fingerplay rhyme featured in Elizabeth Matterson’s classic collection of nursery games, This Little Puffin. Short and sweet, and easily adjusted for any age! 🧁

Ten Little Friends ✋🤚

A sweet and easy fingerplay for home, circle time, transitions, waiting rooms, or just because. Simple enough for babies but still fun for older toddlers and preschoolers.

Fingerplays like this one build fine motor skills, language development, and memory - plus they create emotional connection. Also here’s something I’ve noticed: when kids seem out of control and need big motion, sometimes what actually helps is a little fingerplay like this to gently capture their attention and redirect that energy into a calmer space. ✋🤚

The Seasons 🍁

This is a sweet song about the four seasons! It’s super simple and direct - great for teaching young children about the time of year, and honoring what they notice when they look outside. You can adapt it for whatever season you’re currently in, or use it as an opportunity for imagination and sing through all four! 🍁

Open, Shut Them 👋

This is such a fun and easy fingerplay, and always a hit with little ones. There are a million different ways to do it, and it’s easy to make up your own verses. This one is great for greeting or goodbye, transitions, or just a quick moment to focus everyone and wiggle those fingers. 👋

Macaroni 🧡

A playful accumulation song that’s super silly, and also closely resembles dinner at my house. Anyone else?

Besides the silliness, kids are practicing memory, focus, and body awareness without realizing they’re working at all. Also it’s just a great way to engage everyone in some silly time together. 🧡
