Last week we mailed/delivered our camp kits for our Virtual AASTC that starts next Monday!

Of course, we wish we could have had physical camp, but we’re so excited to see the new and returning camper faces, do a few fun projects, and learn a bit along the way! From homemade pop rocks to catapults, we’ll be having a blast!

We weren’t sure if camp was the place to say this, but if camp truly promotes diversity in our campers, our staff, and our community, we cannot be silent.

No child should live in a world with systemic racism. We hope this movement truly brings change to our nation.

We promise to continue working as an organization to breakdown barriers and make education fun for everyone.

Dear AASTC Families and Friends,

Out of extreme caution, UNCG has decided to keep the campus closed throughout the summer to ensure the safety of our staff, faculty, and campers. Additionally, new data indicating children may be impacted differently by COVID-19 than we first thought only adds more reason for caution. Due to this, we will not be able to have a physical AASTC from July 12th-17th, 2020. We want to thank all of our parents and caregivers who have given or were planning to give us the opportunity to provide a fun, in-person summer camp for your campers.

As we move forward, we still want to give campers an opportunity to participate in an interactive version of camp, but we need to know if you and your campers would be interested. Our plan for a virtual camp would include supplies that are provided beforehand, live video meetings to complete fun, hands-on projects and to socialize with their colony and friends, and provide additional at-home challenges to do on their own time. We would include elements that make camp unique by dividing campers into colonies, creating colony competitions and skits, having a number of class offerings to choose from, and more!

We have sent a form to the parents and caregivers of all camper previously registered to ask if they would like a virtual camp experience, a transfer of balance to 2021 summer, or a full refund. Please be sure to check your email. If you have any questions or if you were not previously registered and are interested in a virtual camp July 13th-17th, please email us at [email protected].
