For those of you who are new to the Greenport community, my name is Kirsten Klotzer Droskoski. I am seeking reelection to the Greenport School Board of Education. Having been a board member for 9 years, 4 of those years as vice-president, I would like to continue to serve Greenport School and the surrounding community, see the bond project through to completion and continue to offer excellent programs for our children, who hold a dear place in my heart.
I have lived in Greenport my entire life. After college I chose to return to Greenport to live with my family and eventually build one of my own. Four generations of my family have attended Greenport schools- from my grandparents right to my own children. I am a Porter at heart and care deeply about the district and children we educate. Greenport is a unique place and a wonderful community that always comes together to support whomever, whenever and wherever. We always look out for what’s best for our children and that is what makes Greenport a true community.
As a board member I have always been aware of the need for vision for the district. My vision for the future includes programs that will allow children to find success both inside and outside of the traditional classroom setting. Children need to have access to information that will prepare them for their future life. I am proud that we offer many diverse opportunities at Greenport and continue to look to add more.
I am a proponent of adding vocational programs in the areas of marine mechanics, nursing and more. It is important to me to create programs for all children. Not all children choose to attend college after high school. Having options to attend vocational training while in high school is an asset for our children. Our children need to all feel they can succeed no matter what path in high school they decide to take.
It’s important to me to build progress in the district through continuous improvement. We need to create transparency and open communication within the district and community. First and foremost, I want our children and staff to be happy. We need to support a healthy school community for working and learning. Without this, I don’t believe our students can achieve their highest potential, which they deserve.
I was on the board when the community passed the bond project. This project is adding an auxiliary gymnasium, new bathrooms, lockers, floors, lights, ceilings, home economics room, updated security, as well as other enhancements. I would like to see the process through to its completion. I am committed to continuously finding ways to improve our school building for our students and staff as well as ensuring our students receive a well rounded education that will prepare them for a future of success, no matter what path they choose.
