🌳 Dixon Forest — A Lasting Legacy for Deirdre “Dee” Dixon 💚📚

Thursday was a very special day in Greendale as we officially dedicated Dixon Forest in recognition of the life and legacy of Deirdre “Dee” Dixon.
For more than 25 years, Dee dedicated herself to the students of the Greendale School District.

Together with Judy Fons, she co-founded the Greendale Reading Buddies program, which continues to foster a love of reading and meaningful connections for Greendale students today.

This dedication was especially meaningful to me. Dee was my Outdoor Education counselor when I was a student, later my teaching colleague and mentor, and eventually my dear friend. During her final years in Greendale, Dee and I—usually accompanied by my dogs—walked together several times a week, and this forest was one of our favorite places to walk.

As I shared yesterday, a forest is a place where things grow—a place of discovery, learning, and wonder. In many ways, that describes Dee’s life as an educator. She planted seeds.

Those seeds continue to grow through the students she taught, the educators she inspired, and the Reading Buddies program she helped create.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special day. May Dixon Forest carry Dee’s name and her legacy for generations to come. 🌳💚

Please join us as we gather to honor the life and legacy of Deirdre “Dee” Dixon with the dedication of Dixon Forest. 🌳📚💚

The forest behind Greendale Middle School will be named in recognition of Dee, a beloved Greendale Intermediate teacher whose passion for reading, teaching, and her students touched generations.

Dee was also the founder of Greendale Reading Buddies, a program that helped foster a love of reading and created lasting connections among students. As another special tribute, Eagle Scout Tyson McCravens constructed a Little Free Library in recognition of her lasting impact.

We invite former students, colleagues, families, friends, Reading Buddies, and community members to join us for this special dedication ceremony as we celebrate Dee and the lasting impact she made on Greendale.

Tonight I had the honor of being sworn in for my fourth term on the Greendale School Board.

"It is truly an honor to take this oath and continue serving the Greendale community. For the past nine years, I’ve had the privilege of working on behalf of our students, families, and residents, and I’m grateful for your trust as I begin my fourth term.

I still remember the first time I was elected, when both of my parents were there to celebrate with me. My parents are the reason I value public education so deeply—they sacrificed a great deal for my eight siblings and me to ensure we had the best education possible. I hope my dad continues to look down on me with pride and a smile on his face.

Thank you to everyone who has shown their support—your engagement and belief in our schools mean a great deal. I also want to thank my fellow board members; it has been wonderful serving with all of you, and I look forward to continuing our work together.

Our residents have spoken clearly: you value leadership that puts students first. That commitment will continue to guide every decision I make.

I will continue to listen and serve our entire community.

Thank you again. I look forward to the work ahead and to supporting every student in Greendale."

Thank you to everyone who supported me and cast their vote last night. I am truly honored to be reelected to both the Greendale School Board and the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors.

I’m proud of the campaign we ran—one that stayed focused on the people we serve, rather than negative politics. The results speak clearly: our residents value dedication, integrity, and a commitment to our students and community.

After spending the last 5½ hours picking up yard signs, I’ve had some time to reflect on just how much this support means. I also truly enjoyed celebrating these wins with so many of you last night. I feel incredibly grateful for my family, friends, neighbors, and everyone who stood behind this campaign. This victory belongs to our entire community.

I also want to give a special thank you to my campaign manager, Brennan Balestrieri, for his hard work and dedication throughout this campaign.

I look forward to continuing to serve and building on the progress we’ve made together. Thank you all, sincerely.
