🎉Choir Celebration Corner🎉

Saturday, March 28th:
YME 6th graders Elli Holien and Ashley Wolfe performed as members of the ACDA State 4-5-6 Polaris Honor Choir. After seven hours of intense rehearsal, they performed a fantastic concert set under the direction of Katie Houts.

Saturday, April 11th:
YME 8th grader Callan Jaenisch performed as a part of the ACDA State 7-8 CTB Honor Choir. After preparing a challenging set of music that spanned seven different languages, he had a fantastic day working under the direction of internationally renowned composer Jim Papoulis.

🎬✨YME Music Florida Tour Highlights✨🎬

✈️ Day 1: Travel day! 🗺️
We woke up at 1:00 A.M. to start our journey. A long day of travel, with many students never flying or even leaving Minnesota’s borders, got us to sunny Florida!

🌊Day 2: Beach day!🌴
The morning started at Disney Springs, where we shopped to our hearts content (especially at that Lego Store!). We then made our way to Cocoa Beach. Even though the day turned gray, and a little rainy, and couldn’t even swim because of potential rip tides, our hardy crew still had a blast making memories on the ocean, capping the night off with a delicious BBQ on the beach!

💫Day 3: Epic Universe!🎢
We got the chance the new Universal Studios: Epic Universe. We got to immerse ourselves in many different, fantastical worlds, some of which we’ve performed music from! Students had a blast chasing thrills, chills, and maybe even some grills for a fulfilling day!

🎞️Day 4: STARS Sound Stage Workshop🎶
A visit to Universal Studios Orlando and Islands of Adventure paid off with an incredible educational experience. Students had the opportunity to perform a piece of music, record voice acting, and replicate live sound effects to create the underscore, dialogue, and sound effects for our own animated movie clip.

The process included working together to not only create the sounds we hear in our clip, but to discuss, deliberate, and select different artistic choices to truly make our clip 100% our own. We learned about the careers involved in the filmmaking process related to music and sound, and even had the chance to workshop and simulate our own film concept.

A big thanks to the STARS Performance Program hosted by Universal Studios Orlando for this incredible and unique experience!

🛬Day 5: The Journey Home🏠
Tired, tanned (maybe a little burnt) but still smiling, we made our way back to Minnesota, just in time for a homecoming winter storm. Lots of memories were made, lots of fun was had, and every moment will stick with us as we finish the school year, and beyond.

Members of the YME Band and Choir got a chance to participate in a STARS sound stage workshop at Universal Studios Orlando.

We recorded a performance of a piece of underscoring, voice acted dialogue, and live foley sound effects. They were then digitally edited into a movie clip and we got to play back our version of the movie with all of our musicians and students in the finished product.

We had such a fun time and learned a ton about how music and sound are made in film making and the types of careers that are possible.

Next, we’re heading home!

8th grader Callan Jaenisch was chosen to represent YME at the ACDA Minnesota State Honor Choir this April!

This will mark his second time participating in the honor choir program. We're so proud of you Callan!

Students in the YME Band and Choir had a fantastic weekend of smiles, fun, and phenomenal music-making.

Students had the opportunity to see two professional theatre productions at the Ordway and Chanhassen Dinner Theatres.

It was neat to see Mean Girls after YME produced the show last fall, and Grease is always a classic.
