I had a conversation recently with a childcare center owner who was in tears.

She shared that she may have to close her doors.

She couldn’t keep children enrolled.
She couldn’t retain staff.

She was burned out and unsure how to market or stabilize her center.

And honestly… her story is not unique.

So many childcare providers are carrying the weight of workforce shortages, low enrollment, and exhaustion, often alone.
But in that moment, we were able to shift the conversation.

Through Blue Pathways Educational Mentorship Services, we introduced our Early Childhood Educator Apprenticeship Program, a workforce development pipeline designed to support childcare centers while building the next generation of educators.

A pipeline that:

✔ Brings in youth ages 16–24
✔ Trains them as assistant teachers
✔ Supports their growth toward lead teacher roles
✔ Creates sustainability for centers

By the end of our conversation, her tears had dried.

She made the decision to sponsor 3 apprentices to join her center.
