Mistakes are learning, too.

This morning, one of our friends accidentally spilled his breakfast. Instead of an adult immediately stepping in, he cleaned it up himself.

This is Montessori.

In a Montessori classroom, we understand that children are going to spill, drop, pour too much, make messes, and sometimes make mistakes. We plan for those moments.

The prepared environment is one of the most important parts of Montessori. As adults, our role is to thoughtfully prepare the space so children can access the tools they need and participate in caring for their environment.

So when something spills, we don’t see a problem that an adult needs to fix.

We see an opportunity.

An opportunity for a child to practice:
• Independence
• Responsibility
• Problem-solving
• Coordination
• Concentration
• Caring for their environment
• Understanding that mistakes can be corrected

The goal isn’t a classroom where nothing ever goes wrong.

The goal is a classroom where children learn what to do when something does go wrong.

We don’t just prepare the environment for success.

We prepare it for the mistakes, too.

Because in Montessori, even an “oops!” can become a meaningful moment of learning.

A little blur, a whole lot of joy.

Today is our first day with all of our children together, and our hearts are overflowing with excitement as we celebrate this beautiful milestone and the growing community we are building.

You may notice that we’ve blurred the video. This is intentional and reflects our commitment to honoring the privacy and safety of the children entrusted to us.

We love sharing the magic happening inside our classroom the laughter, the discoveries, the growing independence, and all the precious little milestones. At the heart of Montessori is respect for each child, and protecting our children will always come first.

Thank you for supporting Moving Mountains Montessori and for respecting the privacy of our little ones as they learn, grow, and climb!

Our first day was the BEST! We started our Transition Week, and it has been so sweet getting to know all of our new friends for the year.

Tomorrow, we welcome our full class, and my heart is feeling so full. Watching our Montessori community grow has been such a beautiful experience.

Here’s to a new year filled with curiosity, independence, friendship, discovery, and so much growth. We are so grateful for this start to the school year and for every family who has trusted us with their little ones.

Welcome to Moving Mountains Montessori, friends! We are so happy you’re here!

As I wind down, I’m feeling incredibly grateful. I have an amazing team that I get to work alongside, and today I had the opportunity to meet with all of our families and see some of my students.

It’s crazy to think that just one year ago, we had three children enrolled and were anxiously waiting for our final licensing approval.

And now… we have a full classroom. 🥹

This journey has stretched me, challenged me, humbled me, and reminded me why I started.

To everyone who has supported us, shared our posts, referred a family, volunteered, encouraged me, prayed for us, or simply believed in what we are building thank you. You have played a part in this.

And we’re just getting started.

There is so much more I want to do. More children to serve. More families to support. More opportunities to pour into our community.

We are making moves. And I’m so grateful you’re on this journey with us.

Here’s to year two!!!

Cicada Season!

It’s cicada season, and our little explorers have been loving the opportunity to discover the natural world right outside our door!
While spending time outdoors, the children have found cicada shells and have been curious about where they came from, what they are, and why they’re finding so many. These little discoveries turn an ordinary outdoor experience into a hands-on science lesson.
This is one of the things we love about Montessori—following the child’s curiosity and allowing the world around them to become their classroom.
Nature is full of wonder!

Practical Life: Transfer Work

In Montessori, even the simplest activities have a purpose.

Transfer work gives children the opportunity to practice moving objects from one container to another while developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, control of movement, and precision.

What may look like a simple activity is actually preparing the child for everyday tasks like eating, dressing, writing, and caring for their environment.

This is the beauty of Montessori: meaningful work that builds independence, one small movement at a time.

Three little moments from this week that reminded me why I love what I do. ❤️

1. A friend brought popsicles to share with the class completely unprompted.
2. Another friend brought their own Band-Aids so everyone could have one if they needed it.
3. A child made a connection between one work and another all on their own.

These moments may seem small, but they’re exactly what Montessori is all about kindness, generosity, curiosity, and children learning from the world around them.

I feel so lucky to spend my days with these incredible little humans and to witness their compassion and wonder grow each day.

Concrete Before Abstract.

In Montessori, children don’t just memorize math, they experience it. By using hands on materials, children can see, touch, and build mathematical concepts before moving to paper and pencil.

When math is concrete, it makes sense. And when it makes sense, confidence grows.

At Moving Mountains Montessori, we’re helping children build a strong foundation that will last a lifetime.

We have a few spaces left for the fall! If you’re looking for a hands on, child centered learning environment where your child can grow in independence and confidence, we’d love to connect.
