CancerEd A team of students and faculty from Calvin College working to develop educational materials that teach K-12 students about cancer.

We are CancerEd, a team of students and faculty from Calvin College who are working to develop educational materials that teach K-12 students about cancer in a scientifically accurate, engaging, and sensitive manner. The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Many children, therefore, will be impacted by cancer, either by the

ir own diagnosis or that of a friend or relative. Our goal is to create a library of age-appropriate teaching materials that promote understanding of cancer and cancer treatments, encourage honest discussions about cancer, and help students identify ways that they can support those with cancer. We have created a number of lesson plans and have begun to pilot our materials in local schools (piloted materials are available at www.CancerEd.org). As new teaching resources are developed, they will be posted on the CancerEd website. Like the lesson plans that are currently posted on this site, new materials will be available (at no cost) for use by classroom teachers.
