I'm Concerned About The Blueberries

I'm Concerned About The Blueberries A pay-it-forward concept by Flint businessman Phil Shaltz that has nothing to do with blueberries and everything to do with caring for each other.

Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day and we just want to remind our Blueberry Ambassadors to continue to spread kindness and extend a hand to those who need it!

Although this school year feels different, one thing that remains constant is the need for kindness 💙

Check out this Blueberry Moment from Haylee Heise at Grand Blanc Community Schools: For my last Blueberry Moment, I bought flowers and gave them to the cashier. This was the most important moment for me because my grandma used to do it whenever she was feeling down. My grandma passed away in the summer of 2019 and it brings back memories. I was really close with her. It makes me feel good. When I gave the flowers to the cashier, she said “Really?” It made me feel amazing! Kindness is like Karma, if you do something nice for someone chances are they will do something nice back.

Check out this Blueberry Moment from Ben at Mason Elementary in Grand Blanc Community Schools:
The holidays are a very busy time of year for delivery people. I put out a box full of goodies, like chips and candy. I made a sign thanking them and offering a treat. Later that day the mail person came. I knew this, because the dogs went crazy barking! I quickly ran to the window in enough time to see her smile and take a piece of candy then walk away smiling. It made me feel good inside to know I did something nice for a complete stranger. It made the mail lady feel good inside when I gave her a twizzler.

This Blueberry Moment from Fisher McCann at Central Elementary at Davison Community Schools warmed our hearts:
This was my most favorite moment of all. It was the start of Christmas break for us and my family decided to celebrate by going out to dinner. While we were eating our dinner, I noticed a lady who was sitting in the booth by herself. When I saw her at first, I thought that maybe her family was just running late because no one eats alone at Christmas time. But, as we continued to eat nobody came to sit with her. She was all alone eating her dinner. This made my heart feel sad. Christmas time is such a fun time that should be spent with family and this lady didn’t have any family to eat dinner with. So, I leaned over to my mom and pointed out the lady. She said that it was sad but some people just don’t have as many family members as we do, especially when you get older. So, I thought about it some more and when the server came back I asked him if I could pay for that lady’s bill. I was so excited to do something nice that I forgot I didn’t actually have any money on me. But, of course my mom said she would pay and I could pay her back from my money at home that I have been saving. So, I paid for her meal. When her server told her that her meal was paid for she broke out in tears. She asked who paid for it and her server pointed to me. She came over to our table and told me that I may never understand what it meant to her for me to care enough about her to pay for her meal. She explained that her husband’s dementia had gotten really bad and he wasn’t able to join to for dinner any longer. She missed eating with him so much and Christmas time was just not the same without him. It felt so good to know that I had a hand in touching someone else’s life, especially during Christmas time. She also said that the founder of the Blueberry program was her dear friend and she thought it was amazing that his awesome idea had come full circle in blessing her too. I will never forget the moment I was able to brighten her day. Not only did I do something kind for her but her appreciation for that kindness is something that will stick with me forever. She was genuinely happy and I know I made a difference in her life.
