I consider Martile Rowland the "final boss" in my voice teacher line-up. She helped me to understand what "appogio" (or "support") feels like in the body. She helped me unlock the bottom of my voice so that the top of my voice could really fill up a room. And, maybe most importantly, she helped to rebuild the confidence that I had lost in all the conservatory nonsense I went through.

This is Addie’s second year of piano with me, and the difference has been pretty amazing to watch. She’s put in the work, and once she started seeing that her practice actually leads to results, things really started to take off.

In this reel, we brought back an older piece she loves and wants to share with her Co-Op. What I care about most here isn’t just how it sounds—it’s watching her work through it. The missed notes, the frustration, sticking with it anyway, and then getting to the other side.

I broke this into three parts: her first time through it, some of us working on it together, and then a video she sent later that day—back at the piano and getting it. That smile at the end says everything.

This is why I teach. It’s not just piano—it’s learning how to slow down, figure something out, stay with it when it’s uncomfortable, and feel what it’s like to earn that progress.
