To the parent struggling with your child’s poor choices…

I used to believe there was a formula for good parenting.

I used to believe if you did A + B, you’d get C.

I used to think if you did all the “right” things, your child would turn out the “right” way. Whatever that is.

But parenting isn’t a formula.

There is no way to guarantee your child won’t struggle, make impulsive choices, mess up, or leave you questioning everything.

Kids are their own people.

They have their own personalities, wounds, choices, and paths to walk.

And sometimes, even in the most loving homes with caring parents, kids still make poor decisions.

Good parenting isn’t about controlling the outcome.

It’s about showing up.
Staying connected.
Holding boundaries.
Loving your child through the messy middle.

So if you need this reminder today:

• Your child’s hardest moments are not a report card on your parenting.
•Your kid’s mistakes and screw ups doesn’t mean you failed.
• Struggle is part of being human and every child’s struggle will look different.
• Don’t spend this season blaming yourself. Or you will miss the opportunity right in front of you.
• Your role is not to be perfect. It’s to stay present while they find their way.

Sometimes the most important parenting happens not when things go right…

…but when you keep loving them through what went wrong.

When you’re out at dinner and your son suddenly says, “Hey Mom, can I just go sit over there by the fire hydrant?” 😂

Not because he’s mad.
Not because anything is wrong.
Just because people-ing is hard sometimes and apparently the fire hydrant feels emotionally supportive.

I love how he knows what he needs and asks for it. Because honestly we all need a fire hydrant reset sometimes. 🤣

Any other parents with me?!

✨ Maybe you need this reminder too…

You don’t have to prove it’s “bad enough.”
You don’t have to earn support through struggle.
You don’t have to wait until you’re at your limit.

You are allowed to receive help while you’re still okay.
You are allowed to be supported before you start to crumble.
You don’t have to wait until you’re drowning.

In order to heal…something has to break.

Not you as a person.
Not your worth.
But the patterns.
The coping.
The systems you built to survive.

Healing will often feel like breaking before it looks like rebuilding. But it starts the moment you realize “this isn’t working anymore.”

The breaking isn’t the end of you. It’s the beginning of a newer version of you that no longer has to survive.

We call it falling apart. But sometimes it’s actually falling into alignment.

We’ve been sold a lie.

Emotional health is NOT about being happy all the time.

It’s about being present with yourself and the full range of what you feel.

Not running.
Not avoiding.
Not minimizing.
Not reacting on autopilot.

But noticing.
Allowing.
Holding it with honesty.

Because real emotional health isn’t built on feeling good…

It’s built on knowing you can stay.

It’s the last quarter of the school year and report cards come out soon.

But let’s face it…grades can create tension with our children and us. Here is a cycle I see often with kids, parents, and grades…

And a small shift that can make some positive changes! ✨
