Glenville State University was proud to take part in CPA Day at the Capitol on January 20th & 21st, joining the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and over 90 CPAs and students, in support of HB 4088 and SB 532.

Those who attended CPA Day from Glenville State included: current students Adrianna Blanco, Whitney Nettles, and Danielle “DJ” White; GSU’s Lecturer of Accounting, MacKenzie Petry; alumnus Eric Brown, CPA; and Professor Emerita and Past President of the WVSCPA, Cheryl McKinney, CPA.

“This is a pivotal moment for the CPA profession and our students are the next generation who will be directly impacted by this legislation, which is why it’s so important to get them involved early. Each student brings a unique story and perspective, and CPA Day gave them the opportunity to share those voices while networking with their local legislators,” said Petry.

Shoutout to Professor Petry and everything she brings to the Department of Business and Glenville State University! Way to represent!

Last evening, GSU Accounting Lecturer, MacKenzie Petry, and her students attended the WVSCPA Student & Member Night at the Parkersburg Country Club, connecting with firms from across the region.

Students met with CPAs, partners, and recruiters to explore internships and career paths, and heard an inspiring message from WVSCPA President Mendy Aluise.

“Opportunities like this really show what students gain from the Accounting program at GSU,” Petry said.

SOMEBODY has been SUPER busy. Dr. Dwight Heaster, our own Associate Professor of Business and Coordinator of the MBA Program, has been selected to receive the 2025 Pete and Betsy Barr Professional Development Award which he intends to use to study artificial intelligence.

In OTHER news, Dr. Heaster's latest writing project, Name Image and Likeness the New Phrase of Personal Branding, is about to be published in several peer-reviewed publications.
