Scotia-Glenville's Board of Education met Monday night for a regular meeting. Here is a summary from the Board.

• The Board accepted the Fiscal Report for 2025-2026, which included positive financial news as the district finished with a stronger operating surplus and undesignated fund balance than a year ago. Mr. Giaquinto credited additional savings in special education private placements and reduced staffing costs in areas like overtime as well as increased revenue projections. • Superintendent Susan Swartz said the district is close to hiring a new Transportation Supervisor and should have one in place by mid-September. Clara Bisaillon will be leaving Scotia-Glenville in September after taking a position with another district. Best wishes, Clara!

• Superintendent Swartz noted the district purchased a school safety traffic sign for near Glendaal Elementary in response to family concerns. The district is now working on a state permit required for installation. Construction of the Glendaal fence is expected to start next week and should be completed by the start of school.

• Three 8th grade Tartans represented Girl Scout Troop 2244 proudly by sharing their efforts to earn a Silver Award by piloting a composting program at Scotia-Glenville Middle School. Students explained how they worked with Cornell Cooperative Extension to learn how other schools have created successful cafeteria compost programs and their efforts to bring it here. Great job!

• The Board discussed goals for the 2026-27 school year, sharing ideas on career pathways for students, improving communication, and updating the process to approve district policies. The Board plans to formalize its goals for the next meeting.

Scotia-Glenville's Board of Education met Monday night for a special meeting. Here is a summary from the Board.

• The Board met to approve a bid to install a fence at Glendaal Elementary, helping ensure the work is completed before the start of the school year.

• The approved bid also requires the fence installation be completed before the start of the school year.

• The fence is an additional safety measure to protect students from nearby roads and was requested by Scotia-Glenville families.

• Funding for the project is already included in this year's budget. Approximately 76% of the cost will be covered by state aid.

• The project required State Education Dept. approval, which was finalized in mid-July.

The next regular Board meeting will be Monday, August 17 at 7:00 p.m. Thank you.

Hello! I'm sharing a summary of this week's Board meeting that we put together to help keep our community updated. We plan to share these quick summaries (with ways to learn more) after each meeting and hope to share them on the district's social media as well in the future.

Scotia-Glenville's Board of Education met Monday night for its regular meeting. Here is a summary from the Board.

• The Board discussed the future of Glen-Worden with each member sharing their thoughts on potential uses from Pre-K to services and programs for students. The Board stressed the importance of the school to our community and the need to plan so the building doesn't sit vacant for long.

• The Board discussed potential goals for the 2026-27 school year including conducting a superintendent search, career pathways, improving communication, and updating district policies. The Board plans to finalize their goals at the Aug. 17 meeting.

• Scotia-Glenville's Administrative Team presented updates and revisions to the Elementary, Middle, High School and Athletic Codes of Conduct during a public hearing. The codes, which were approved by the Board with additions and edits, will be available soon on the district website.

• The Board gave an update on the fence installation at Glendaal Elementary. State Education Dept. approval was required and finalized last week. The project can now be bid out with approval expected Aug. 6. The Board discussed holding an emergency meeting Aug. 10 to approve the bid if it helps ensure the fence installation is completed before the opening day of school.

• The Board approved agreements with the Village of Scotia and Town of Glenville to continue the School Resource Officer program at Scotia-Glenville schools.

Thank you, Scotia-Glenville! I am honored to announce that you have made "McCord for the Board" official! 🙂

I'm truly humbled by your support and excited to work with the Board and administration to help lead Scotia-Glenville into the future.

I also want to thank my fellow Board candidates for the great ideas and important conversations that they each brought to this campaign. It's great to see community members stepping up to try to make a difference.

I know. It's sunny and warm out. It's a big ask. 😎

But if any of my ideas or experience that I've shared over the past month interest you, I would greatly appreciate your vote for Scotia-Glenville School Board so I can help make a difference for our community.

Polls are open until 9:00 p.m. at the High School. We have wonderful poll workers who will get you in and out quickly. And I'm first on the ballot so you don't have to search for my name!

Okay, my last pitch. 🙂

My sincere thanks to everyone who has supported or shown interest in my run for Scotia-Glenville's BOE.

Maybe at this point you're just wondering what type of person you'd be electing if you vote for me on Tuesday.

You'd get someone who's spent a career caring deeply about school communities and helping build trust. You'd provide me an opportunity to help my own district after helping so many others.

Students are always my focus in every district I've worked in. Helping school communities celebrate the amazing things students learn and achieve is the best part of my work. I'd bring the same student focus to the Board.

But I also value helping districts with challenges. As a member of district Admin Teams, I've helped school communities through student crises, school closings, COVID, and countless other challenges. My communication advice is always based on honesty, transparency, and reassuring families.

My leadership style is to listen first, offer my advice, and then work as a team on the best way forward. While I can be passionate about my ideas, I also know I'm not always right. Respecting others and their ideas is essential to me.

If you've heard me speak at Board meetings, you may have noticed I always first thank the Board for volunteering to serve our community. It's not that I always agree with the Board. But I know they - and the dozens of Board members I've known in my career - are all trying their best to help improve things for students and the community.

And that's the main reason I'm running - to work with our Board to help improve our schools and build trust with our community.

Scotia-Glenville is a wonderful community. Despite our district challenges, there's no place that I'd rather my family call home. Our neighbors are amazing. Our schools' teachers and staff have been nothing short of incredible in helping our daughter grow. It would be an honor to help Scotia-Glenville rebuild trust with our community and work together to lead our district into the future.

How many times have you heard Scotia-Glenville say they'll improve communications? If elected to the Board of Education, I'm on it.

I've been doing that for 20 years, building communication programs for school districts around the area. Just starting with these simple ideas would make a big difference for our school community.

• Push important news to families. How often do we hear “Go to the website”? Passive communication doesn't work for today's families. Scotia-Glenville can push out important updates directly to our phones by using ParentSquare strategically and thoughtfully. The administration just needs to change their mindset and be proactive.

• Celebrate Tartans every day. We should celebrate all that our students learn and achieve each day on Scotia-Glenville's social media. That's what I do for Schalmont CSD as their Communications Director. Other districts do as well. I've found teachers, staff and families often love to share photos of events and student achievements if asked. We should be encouraging our school community to share their photos with the district Communication Office to help celebrate many more great Scotia-Glenville moments.

• Keep employees informed. Building trust and openness can be as simple as the Superintendent emailing all faculty and staff about an important decision before sharing it with the community. Imagine being a teacher when a parent or guardian asks about a district decision that you have no idea about. That shouldn't happen. Faculty and staff should be the first to know.

• Start with honesty and transparency. The most frustrating part of Glen-Worden's closing for me was how families couldn't get answers to basic questions. In the end, it was an honest and thoughtful presentation by Mr. Geniti and Mr. Arket that provided answers and helped families understand the rationale. We need more of that approach at the beginning of district challenges.

If elected, I will push for these and many more simple ideas that will improve communications for our community.
