I’m reading the book of Proverbs today and I’m reminded how many times my kids and I read it when homeschooling for developing wisdom and spiritual maturity. Solomon writes here in chapter 1 that is the reason he wrote the book.

“Here are Kingdom revelations, words to live by, and words of wisdom, given to empower you to reign in life. Within these sayings will be found the revelation of wisdom and the impartation of spiritual understanding. Use them as keys to unlock the treasures of true knowledge. These proverbs will give you great skill to teach the immature and make them wise, to give youth the understanding of their design and destiny.”

Huge promises for us as parents to help our children become wise and “reign in life”!

I love that the Lord tells us that we can teach our children to revere, respect, honor him by teaching them his word. It’s several times and scriptures including Deuteronomy 4: 10-12.

“‘Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere and respect me as long as they live and teach them to their children. You came near and stood at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire to the very heavens with black clouds in deep darkness and the Lord spoke to you out of the fire.’”

These four beautiful children on my profile picture are all walking with the Lord, married to Christian spouses, and for the two oldest raising our 8 grandchildren in the instruction of the Lord! There is nothing more fulfilling to see them thriving in their love for Jesus! When homeschooling you can direct them to pray, read Scripture, and worship throughout the day, in addition to instruct in character building, work ethic, and etiquette, which are all rarely taught these days. What a privilege to disciple our children!

What are the things God tells us to TEACH OUR CHILDREN?
In many verses of Scripture He says to teach them about Him- His ways, His acts, His commands. And what does God promise the result to be? “ Your children will learn to revere Me as long as they live and teach it to their children.” Revering or fearing God means to respect Him, honor Him in our hearts, live in conscious awareness of His preeminence and presence constantly. This is a high priority and goal of Christian parenting.
“You came near (God)at the foot of the mountain while it blazed with fire and you and spoke out of the fire.” Dt 4:11,12
God’s words are still speaking wisdom and Truth today and we can teach them to our children.
