What’s a Puppet Slam? Find out tonight!
A puppet slam is a curated night of short-form puppetry (8 minutes or less) featuring multiple artists and a broad mix of techniques — shadow, film, object theatre, hand/rod, and more. Puppet Meltdown embraces personal autonomy and celebrates all things female, showcasing a diverse range of styles, subjects, and tones from puppetry professionals of many backgrounds. This edition includes original works from the United States, Newfoundland, and Kenya.
Funding is made possible in part by the Puppet Slam Network and Sea Beast Puppet Company. All proceeds go to support the slam and the artists who so generously contribute their work.

Series Spotlight: Mystery P**n Theatre 3000
Run monthly at LRA, this gloriously unhinged screening series takes a spectacularly bad sexy movie and invites the entire room to riff and roast. Expect a demented freshman-year energy, groaners galore, and the ceremonial squeaking rubber mallet to PUNish crimes against comedy. Past shows are listed on the series page (sometimes behind on updates); the best way to know what’s next is to join the LRA mailing list.

Artist Spotlight: Kat Pleviak — 'Last Call' (shadow puppetry)
Sensitively told and largely nonverbal, 'Last Call' explores how culture projects a singular image onto sex-positive women while each person remains specific and complex. We meet a burlesque dancer in her quiet after-show ritual — removing costume pieces and makeup — revealing not a stereotype, but someone whole.

About Kat: Founder/Artistic Director of Sea Beast Puppet Company; MFA in Youth Theatre & Puppetry (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa). Producer of Puppet Meltdown, The Shadow Puppet Conspiracy, The History of Light, and 'Méfiez-Vous de la Vache-Garou' (Best in Show, Chicago Fringe 2013). Featured by major institutions; published in Puppetry Journal; featured in Puppetry International’s '40 Under 40'. Kat also serves as Membership Administrator for Puppeteers of America.

Puppet Meltdown Artist Spotlight: Pixie Danger
Fish + corsets + chaos theory 🐟👗
Can Lew Zealand remove a corset while juggling fish? You’ll have to find out… Pixie Danger brings the unhinged joy at 'The Sexxy Slam'.
Burlesque artist and puppeteer Pixie Danger has spent 7 years bringing their personal blend of stupid, sexy, and beautifully unsettling work to stages across the country. With training in marionette performance, shadow puppetry, classical ballet, and special-effects design, Pixie fuses high craft with audacious humor — then gleefully subverts it. The result: acts that are as technically sharp as they are disarmingly human.
