Your chance for a hands-on experiential introduction to polyvagal principles 🙌

This in-person training offers a practical way to deepen your understanding of nervous system patterns in both humans and horses, while strengthening your capacity for authentic connection.

You’ll explore how these core principles shape equine and human behavior, and learn how to apply them directly to your professional work — with or without horses.

Designed to be practical, ethical, and easy to integrate, the program is meant to complement your existing approach while remaining aligned with your profession’s standards.

Join us in person on the farm in California, October 9–12, 2026.

Daily workshop hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PDT.

Why do horses wear fly masks?🐴👇

At least once a month we get a non-horse visitor to the barn, and one of their first questions is always the same: “Why do you put blindfolds on your horses?”

It’s a fair thing to wonder.

From a distance, fly masks do look like blindfolds, but they’re actually the opposite.

The mesh fabric lets horses see clearly while creating a protective barrier around their eyes.

As any horse owner knows, summer brings a swarm of flies.

They’re drawn to the moisture around a horse’s eyes, where they land, feed, and spread bacteria that can lead to irritation and infection.

Horses can only do so much swishing their tails and shaking their heads.

Fly masks do the rest, keeping the flies away so horses stay comfortable and healthy through the buggiest months of the year.

So next time you see one of our “blindfolded” horses, rest assured: they can see you just fine.

They’re just dressed for the season ☀️🪰

After years of managing my own asthma, something finally occurred to me one morning.

I was standing in the barn taking a puff from my inhaler while my little mini horse, Aurora, watched me with that look only a horse can give.

Then she let out her usual little cough.

I’d heard that cough so many mornings, but by the time the veterinarian came out, it had always disappeared.

I remember smiling and thinking, “Wouldn’t it be something if she had asthma too?”

I called Margie, my go-to person for all things horse, and together we started asking questions.

Sure enough, we discovered that equine asthma is much more common than most people realize.

Like people, horses can benefit from inhaled medications when needed, but managing their environment is just as important.

Reducing dust, improving ventilation, and limiting airway irritants can make a tremendous difference in keeping horses comfortable and healthy.

Looking back, Aurora wasn’t just watching me use my inhaler.

She may have been trying to tell me something all along.

Our horses have an incredible way of communicating with us, if we slow down long enough to listen 💛🐴
