Join the Aviation Academy team at Tacoma Narrows Airport Day!
Visit the Peninsula School District Aviation Academy booth for a hands-on flight simulator experience and our Paper Plane Challenge. Guests can explore what makes a plane fly, design and build their own paper airplane, and compete for a chance to win a prize!
Airport Day is a free, family-friendly event featuring aircraft displays and flybys, aviation professionals and businesses, STEM activities, career and educational resources, food trucks, and more.

Rising Tide Studio, Gig Harbor High School’s Art Club, has been busy turning creativity into a real-world business experience! 🎨✨

Students recently completed a custom order of fused glass coasters for a local group. From designing the product and preparing supplies to creating a production schedule, calculating costs, packaging the final pieces, and delivering to the customer, students experienced what it takes to bring a creative product from concept to completion.

Along the way, they strengthened their art skills while also practicing business skills like pricing strategy, process optimization, time management, teamwork, and professionalism.
This is career readiness in action — creative, hands-on, and connected to the community!

🧁 Cupcake Wars 2026 was a huge success at Gig Harbor High School!

Our Food Science students brought creativity, teamwork, and a serious competitive spirit to the kitchen as they battled for cupcake supremacy. From bold flavor combinations to impressive decorating skills, these students truly showed out!

We are so proud of the effort, innovation, and passion they put into every cupcake. A huge thank you to the staff, administrators, and district personnel who stopped by to judge, cheer on, and support our students.

✈️ Aviation Academy students recently completed an immersive aviation operations visit to NAS Whidbey Island, gaining firsthand exposure to multiple aviation and aerospace career pathways.

Students observed the P-8 Poseidon and EA-18G Growler aircraft on the flight line, toured the air traffic control tower to observe live tower operations, and explored aircraft maintenance and manufacturing environments focused on aviation systems and logistics.
The experience also included rotary-wing aircraft operations, emergency response coordination with the fire department, and hands-on exploration of emergency response apparatus and support vehicles used in airfield operations.

Experiences like this give students direct exposure to aviation terminology, operational procedures, aerospace systems, and career fields connected to military and civilian aviation industries.

🚧 Students recently had the opportunity to attend the Port of Tacoma-sponsored Dozer Day Construction Field Trip! 🚜

This hands-on experience gave students an inside look at careers in the construction and skilled trades industries while connecting directly with industry professionals and equipment operators. From exploring heavy machinery to learning about workforce pathways and safety, students experienced the real-world side of construction careers in an engaging and interactive environment.

A huge thank you to the Port of Tacoma and the Dozer Day team for investing in career-connected learning opportunities for our students and helping inspire the next generation of skilled trades professionals!
