I'm pleased to announce that my fifth book, The Wounded, the Dying, and the Dead: Medicine and Surgery at Gettysburg, will be published by Louisiana State University Press, a leading publisher of Civil War history.
This book will examine the medical and surgical experience of the Battle of Gettysburg, from the activities of the opposing armies' medical departments to the treatment, evacuation, and subsequent lives of the wounded. Drawing on military and medical records, contemporary accounts, and the histories of individual soldiers, it will explore how surgeons, nurses, and civilians confronted the extraordinary challenges of battlefield medicine in 1863. As both a surgeon and a medical historian, I hope to bring a distinctive perspective to the medical challenges faced by the wounded and those who cared for them.
There is much work ahead, but I'm delighted that the book has found a home with LSU Press. See less
