This is so true.
What do you call a snake that is 3 feet 14 inches long?
Today someone said "when am I ever going to use y=mx+b?" I said do you get paid at a constant rate? They said, "wait that means my pay is like a slope, a linear rate of change". Exactly.
I asked someone to solve a mathematics problem that was written as a statement in a complete sentence. When attempting to solve the problem, they changed the order in which the statement was written in order to obtain their solution. When asking why the order was changed they said "reading from left to right applies to grammar 100% of the time, but that is not the case for mathematics". Why is the general thought that things are different when it comes to mathematics?
