Joe Guthrey, our tower climber, has been stricken with a non malignant tumor on the base of his brain stem. The prognosis is a 40% chance fatal during surgery and only a sedentary life style if he recovers. Over the last 3 months, he and his wife have exhausted their savings and they have no children to assist. Social Security is giving him the run- a-round and his wife is in a wheel chair as well. If you would like to send a love offering anything would be appreciated. Additionally, please add he and his wife to your prayer list.

To send an offering, you may send as check a to Jerry McCullough or as a PayPal payment to [email protected]. Please mark it as a donation for Joe Guthrey in the comments of the check or PayPal payment.

Dear JIM BELL WIRELESS ASSOCIATION,

HADES-ICM is in orbit and transmitting.

We’d like to invite your club to take part in the “Catch a Message from Space” challenge — an opportunity to receive, decode, and explore real signals transmitted from a live PocketQube satellite.

The satellite operates with an SDR-based FM/FSK repeater supporting AX.25/APRS communication (UHF downlink, VHF uplink), designed to be directly accessible to the amateur radio community.

This is a hands-on activity your members can explore using existing amateur radio and SDR setups:

• Receive signals transmitted from orbit
• Decode and identify rotating message transmissions
• Compare reception results and observations as a club
• Experiment with tracking, logging, and satellite communication workflows

We’ve prepared a dedicated page with challenge details, operating information, and participation guidance:

About icMercury

icMercury is a space-focused platform exploring ways to connect satellite missions, experimental payloads, and community participation into a more accessible experience. Through small satellites and open signals, we hope to encourage more people to listen to, interact with, and explore space together.

We are also currently opening early access to the icMercury app platform ahead of its public launch. Clubs and individual operators interested in testing the platform, following satellite activities, or creating community channels are welcome to explore:

Whether as a live demo, a themed club session, or an ongoing technical challenge, we’d love to see your members catch the signal and make it their own.

See you on the air.

Since we are underway for the annual recruiting blitz of 2026, the NWS Mobile will feature the local Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network Regional Spot-lights. The first is coastal southwest AL. Mobile and Baldwin counties have the highest number of network gauges reporting since January 1st. But there are many areas in both counties that do not have a gauge. Do you live in these areas and would be interested in joining the network? It's easy and fun. It also provides a valuable service to many users. We need you. For more information about the network and to join, please see https://www.cocorahs.org/. Thank you to all of our network observers. We appreciate ALL that you do. 👀Look for more regional spotlights in the coming days.
