Breeding dogs never truly has a guaranteed plan. We produce what we consider a masterpiece, and have big plans for them. But fate has something else in mind. The end of 2022 was a heartbreaking change here. We “lost” two of our most exciting lines from our program.. Dogs that would have crippled most programs to lose from their lines and future.

Pandora was first, she was one I planned such a bright future for. I was so excited to incorporate her gorgeous structure and heavy coat more heavily into our program. That was not the case, as she was just not progressing with her first litter. We ended up taking her in for a c-section, which will always result in a spay (If not in the same surgery, then fairly soon after). There are too many complications and risks to repeat c-sections and no reason to put our kids through that. So we had to make the tough decision to spay her. She had one puppy, who has a wonderful pet home as she had split face markings.

Then New Year's eve morning Stormy seemed unsteady, and begin to have a “no one is there” look to her. Immediately we had a vet appointment scheduled and gave calcium as it sounded very much like pre-eclampsia. After about 8 hours on calcium by IV, her levels were high enough for surgery. She had a c-section and spay, and now has 7 healthy babies. The vet taking care of her was phenomenal. He stayed 4 hours after closing to take care of Stormy.

It was definitely tough to cut two very solid girls from our program, but they will always come first. Our plans might not always come together as we had hoped, they can sometimes take a bit of a detour.
