📚🐏 Ramsey’s Fact of the Day: Juneteenth 🐏📚

Today we’re shining a light on an important part of American history—Juneteenth ❤️💛💚

Juneteenth is celebrated on June 19 and marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

This day honors freedom, resilience, and African American history and culture. It became a federal holiday in 2021 and is celebrated with family, community, and reflection.

At Sherwood Elementary, we believe in learning from our past and celebrating the strength and diversity that make our community great.

It’s that time of year again! If you have a rising kindergartener, seventh grader, or twelfth grader, now’s the time to schedule their immunization appointment.

You can visit your child’s pediatrician or make an appointment with the Gaston County Department of Health & Human Services.

📣 Attention New Sherwood Families! 🐏💙

All new Sherwood Elementary School Kindergarten students and any students newly enrolled in North Carolina are required to complete a North Carolina Health Assessment and provide an up-to-date immunization (shot) record.

Ramsey will need all of your child’s information so they are ready for a smooth and successful start to the school year!

🗓 Due Date: September 12, 2026
📍 Where to get forms: Available in the Sherwood Front Office
🩺 Important: Forms must be completed by a physician

Please return all completed forms to the school as soon as possible.

Before the school year begins, Ramsey will need to screen your student to help determine the best placement for their Kindergarten classroom.

📅 Screening Days: Every Thursday
🕘 Times: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM & 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
📆 Dates: June 4th – August 6th

Once you have registered your child for Kindergarten, please plan to visit the Sherwood Elementary School office the following week for their screening.

⏱ Screenings take about 15 minutes and are first come, first served.
