I advise orgs all the time and the one thing I tell them is that you have to be able to answer this question! Sure, you can lie about it but that's very risky. Your board should be GOVERNING, GUIDING, GIVING, and helping the organization GROW! FUNDERS WANT TO KNOW that your board BELIEVES IN THE MISSION SO MUCH that they GIVE their TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE! Oh! and when the staff gives, it's icing on the cake!
