I have a bunch of relatives in the little costal village where I grew up. I don’t visit often these days, since my dad passed and my mother is in a nursing facility due to advanced dementia. That’s not really the reason I don’t go there anymore. There seems to be nothing to offer. There are a couple little churches there, and the one my parents used to attend is basically full of the overly pious types of know it all people, clannish as most of the churches run by a small number of related people, which seems much like religious inbreeding, and they really don’t seem to have any interest outside of their small group. What’s the point? Just because you go to church, doesn’t make you a good person. It does sort of lead to self aggrandizing. and doesn’t have anything to do with God or religion. It has to do with getting attention and being able to have some type of influence because you believed in whatever you do in the church is somehow something important when in actuality, it’s not. I have left religion behind. There’s nothing there that actually helps anybody, I’m not talking about you know delivering a dish to somebody on Sunday afternoon or things like that, but any real meaningful interaction beyond the droning on of the usual stuff that my cousin in charge is constantly spewing. He got it from his father who is a much better man and a much more measured man. Anybody that puts up an air that they’re better than anybody else regardless of religion or not is someone with whom I do not want or need to associate
with.
