Tuesday General Meeting Highlights!

GCEA had its best attended general meeting in at least 2 years. Shout out to all of you for coming to what turned out to be an eventful evening!

GCEA proposed a budget for 2026-27, and that will be debated at our September general meeting. Additionally, GCEA passed two resolutions aimed at holding our union accountable to the same union values we fiercely defend here in Garden City.

Those resolutions will be in the comments. We would love to see all of you at our September meeting!

What a great way to wrap up the first week of school and head into fall. 🍂

Sweat equity was on the menu today. 💪

Our Organizer Leaders, UniServ Southwest, KNEA UniServ Director Mike Campbell, and President Sherri Schwanz spent the day connecting with current members, welcoming potential members, and engaging educators around this year's goals.

Our certified and classified tables stayed busy for nearly two hours. We left with pages of notes, new connections, and a clear picture of the work ahead.

A special thanks to President Schwanz, who spent time building relationships with local businesses which ended up helping us find great storage solutions and made cleanup much easier. It was a little cramped and a little sweaty, but that's what sweat equity looks like.

In the afternoon, we had the chance to catch a few of the 50+ professional learning sessions led by our own members. Watching educators share their expertise with colleagues is exactly what a strong union looks like.

Last year, GCEA members spoke up. They wanted professional development that was relevant, practical, and led by educators who understand our classrooms.

So we listened.

We even sponsored one of the best professional development opportunities of the year on a snow day, outside of contract time, because investing in our educators is always worth it.

This fall, you'll see 51 professional development sessions led by our own members.

That's what happens when members have a voice. That's what happens when we invest in each other.

Absolutely stronger together.
