Gale Scholars

The Gale Scholars Program offers first generation students a tuition free scholarship at Knox and CSC

The George Washington Gale Scholars program was established in 1996 and named after the founder of Galesburg and Knox College. The program is a collaborative partnership between Knox College, Carl Sandburg College and Galesburg School District 205 and was created to encourage and support higher education aspirations and success in the target population of academically promising first-generation an

d income eligible youth within District 205. Each year up to ten students are selected and they join other cohorts to participate in summer enrichment and academic preparation, community service and special skill-building experiences. Students who complete the program in high school receive tuition-waiver scholarships toward the completion of associate's and bachelor's degree programs at Carl Sandburg College and Knox College respectively. Highly academically successful students at Galesburg High School may qualify for direct enrollment to Knox College.

The Gale Scholars program held its annual Induction Ceremony yesterday in the GHS Little Theater. It was a terrific event with wonderful speakers and inspiring activities. We welcomed the Gale Scholars GHS Class of 2030 into this prestigious program at the festivities. The opportunities that are ahead for these 11 students are plentiful and momentous. They enter with a cumulative GPA of 3.54 and tons of character and talent. Pictured by the banner is 2008 Gale Scholars alum and popular teacher in the ROWVA school district, Chris Carpenter and Knox graduating senior, Katie Ponce.
