Your Authentic Self Work

I was there because I don't want to relinquish the freedoms this democracy affords me…because this administration should not be allowed to unilaterally undo what generations of Americans have fought for…those who were born here and those who chose to make this their home. This protest rally was community-based, peaceful, intentional and it was even fun to gather with people who share the goal of sustaining our civil rights. And with growing reports that nearly 3% of the population gathered nationwide with shared intention…it may represent one of the most resounding collective messages we’ve experienced in decades.

The Community Wellness Workshop is a shared meaning-making space that occurs every second Monday@ 5:00 PM at the Sweetwater Square Community Center. Join Dr. Syraj Syed, Developmental Counselor, and Nadine Johnson, Community Development Specialist, to build free resources that address mental, emotional and social health around issues of police violence, housing and food insecurity, domestic violence, addiction and school/learning issues. We are only as strong as the community that supports us!

Had a great time with the Women's Community Development Group and other community partners working this back-to-school event hosted by Sweetwater Square. There are many vulnerable members of our community for whom going back to school and succeeding in school is a difficult proposition. Good to have wraparound services and resources available for our neighbors who are most in need. 😊

School officials themselves have a hard time engaging our communities and families. For low-income and migrant families, this time can bring unique challenges...that schools and nonprofits should play a crucial role in addressing, but don’t often succeed in outreach where and when it’s needed most. That’s why it’s important that WE set the tone for how schools and nonprofits should partner with communities in order to serve the families who need the most help.
