Yesterday, P.K. Yonge welcomed staff from Sen. Ashley Moody’s office and fellow Florida school district leaders for conversation, classroom observation and shared learning around one of the most rapidly evolving issues in education: artificial intelligence.

Visitors joined a 7th grade science classroom, where students used AI to support a shark tooth identification lab, and then heard directly from students about their experiences and perspectives on the use of AI in teaching and learning.

As a developmental research school, an important part of our mission is creating space to explore emerging opportunities and challenges in education alongside others. We don’t approach this work with all the answers. Instead, we value sustained curiosity and the opportunity to learn with and from educators, researchers, policymakers, students and other stakeholders who bring different perspectives to the conversation.

Our partnerships with the University of Florida College of Education and UF CSEveryone Center for Computer Science Education connect classroom practice, research and student experience. Opportunities like today’s visit extend that learning beyond our campus—allowing us to share what we are learning, hear what others are seeing and asking, and grapple together with the implications of emerging technologies for schools.

We are grateful to our visitors for contributing to the conversation. This kind of exchange is central to our mission: serving as a collaborative space where important questions about the future of education can be explored together.
