We teach children how to recognize and resist danger through empowerment skills.

Our mission is to bring the radKIDS curriculum to local children in the Alachua County Elementary Schools.

More radKIDS are being trained at Micanopy Area Cooperative School than any other school in Alachua County. Maybe even in the state of Florida. radKIDS are taught, trained and empowered to recognize, avoid and if necessary to stop violence. Should all elementary kids be radKIDS?

Congratulations to our 1st graders! They completed the radKIDS program and showed off all they learned during simulation this week. WAY TO GO 1ST GRADE!

Teen Driver Challenge 11/12/2024

This team driver challenge class is simply awesome. A group of dynamic instructors teaching your teenage drivers how to navigate the police pursuit defensive course.. what’s even better is it’s free. But you must sign up. This class scheduled for November 16 is possibly going to be canceled unless we get some more students to sign up. Please hurry.

The last time our community had an all day radKIDS Camp was 2019.
Over the past two weeks, radKIDS instructors from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Florida Police Department, and independent volunteers have taught, trained, and empowered 67 children. The radKIDS curriculum educates children on how to handle various emergencies. Topics covered include stopping a bully, escaping a fire, avoiding a dog attack, abduction prevention, understanding personal boundaries with good touch/bad touch, and many more. While Sheriff Emery Gainey supports hosting these summer camps, the real goal is to implement radKIDS in every elementary school. The program meets the P.E. standards for the state of Florida.

For clarification

The Sheriff’s Office continues to receive questions regarding last week’s report that the office is under investigation. Please see the below email that Sheriff Gainey shared with employees on Friday (06/07/2024) for clarification.

“To All ACSO Employees,

It was reported that the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office was under investigation by the State’s Attorney and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. It was further reported that the investigation was transferred to the 3rd Judicial Circuit. The stories left out some important context thus leaving readers to question if this was a new investigation. It is not.

The facts are as follows:

1. I first learned of these actions by the State and Governor’s Office today.
2. The referenced investigation began in February 2023 and involves the prior administration.
3. My administration is NOT under investigation by any sources.

Thank you for your continued commitment to providing excellent and dedicated services to the citizens of Alachua County.”
