"I was told, 'You're wasting your time with video games, it's just a hobby.'"

That's an esports educator reflecting on his own experience growing up. Today, he coaches students who have a shot at $50 million in projected collegiate scholarship funding across roughly 280 varsity programs.

Esports has become a legitimate pathway for students. The question is whether the spaces schools build are designed to match that ambition. This article breaks it down, https://meteoreducation.com/the-growing-importance-of-k-12-esports/

A repurposed computer lab and mismatched chairs won't cut it for a serious esports program.

The physical environment shapes how students perform and how educators manage the room. Perhaps more importantly, it informs how students perceive the program itself. When a kid works with professional-grade equipment, something shifts. As one esports coach put it, they realize "this is what professionals use."

We explored what intentional esports design actually looks like and how schools can bring it to their students. Read our guide to intentional K-12 esports design: https://meteoreducation.com/the-growing-importance-of-k-12-esports/

A media center designed for quiet, independent study struggles to accommodate group work, creative projects, and digital literacy instruction at the same time.

That tension is something most schools recognize. The layout they inherited wasn't built for everything they're now asking it to do. And without a clear plan, even well-intentioned upgrades can fall short.

Check out our latest article. It covers a phased approach to media center design that any district can follow, regardless of budget.

The school cafeteria is one of the most consistently used spaces in a building. It's also one of the most consistently overlooked.

When the environment feels dated or uninviting, students opt out. Participation drops, food waste goes up, and a valuable opportunity to support student wellbeing gets left on the table.

But meaningful improvement doesn't require a full renovation. It starts with the right furniture and a little intention.

Check out our overview on what goes into a well-designed school cafeteria.

Students spend a lot of time in the school cafeteria, but most cafeterias aren't designed with that in mind.

Lunchtime is one of the few unstructured moments in a student's day. It’s chance to reset and connect with friends. And it’s the environment that determines whether that actually happens.

We broke down the design and furniture elements that make a cafeteria a space students want to be in. Take a look: https://meteoreducation.com/designing-a-school-cafeteria-that-works-for-every-student/

Before, books felt intimidating to many students. Now, the inviting colors, flexible seating, and layout remove those barriers.” Megan Sullivan, Media Center Specialist

At Sligh Middle School in Tampa, FL, an outdated media center no longer reflected the pride and potential of its students. The goal was to create a space that was flexible and built for hands-on learning.
