Benjamin L. Crump was the attorney for the families of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, and Corey Jones and is a former President of the National Bar Association. He has been recognized as one of The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Lawyers, Ebony Magazine Power 100 Most Influential African Americans, and bestowed such covenant as the NAACP Thurgood Marshall Award, the SCLC Martin Luther King Servant Leader Award, the National Urban League’s Whitney Young Award, and the AKA’s Eleanor Roosevelt Award.

We would love to recongnize Colin Kaepernick, 49ers quarterback in the NFL. For announcing that he would be donating $1 million of his salary to various organizations that focus on helping their communities. As well as to promote awareness on different avenues that lack assistance such as the African American communities.

Phylicia Rashad is American actress, singer and stage director. She graduated from Howard University magma cm laude obtaining a Bachelor degree in Fine Arts in 1970. Phylicia is commonly known for her role as Clair Huxtable on the American sitcom The Cosby Show. 🎭💓

Today we honor the legacy of Omari Hardwick. Hardwick originally had aspirations to join the NFL, but after an unsuccessful attempt to join a team though the NFL draft, he set his sights on a career on acting. Today, he is a successful actor with roles in TV shows such as "Being Mary Jane" and "Power".

National Black Chamber of Commerce President, CEO and co-founder Harry Alford has established himself as perhaps the nation's preeminent champion of African-American business empowerment. He has been responsible for opening doors that have led to billions of dollars in new business for Black-owned businesses throughout the nation.

Sandra Bland was a Prairie View A&M University Alumni. Prior to her death Bland had recently landed a job at her alma mater where she would have been the summer programming associate in the school's Cooperative Extension Program. Unfortunately on July 13, 2015 Bland was found dead hung by a trash bag in her jail cell two days after being arrested for what many classify as an incident of police brutality. Police are calling it “self-inflicted asphyxiation,” but many remain skeptical.

Today we honor Violette Neatley Anderson. She was the first African American female attorney to practice before the United States Supreme Court. She paved the way for many Black female attorneys today.

James Weldon Johnson he created the Negro National Anthem. He was the first African American to pass the bar exam in Florida. He founded The Daily American newspaper.

Loretta Lynch was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve as the 83rd United States Attorney General. This appointment on April 23, 2015 made her the second African-American, second woman and, first African American woman to be sworn into the position.

Dr. Carter G. Woodson is the second African American to earn a PhD at Harvard University. He is considered the Father of Black History and is credited with being the founder of Negro History Week, which later became Black History Month.
