Composition Tip #1
In the past, the Rule of Thirds has dominated photography classes!
I've started teaching a new way to think about composition. It's called The Grid!
The Tic-Tac-Toe grid is an easier way to think about composition. Just imagine the grid on top of every image you start to take when you look through your viewfinder or look at your LCD, then place your most important subject in one of the areas where the 4 lines intersect. These 4 areas are where your viewers will be lead to look. The center is visually boring/unexciting for the majority of compositions. Of course, there are exceptions, but that's another lesson. Today, we focus on placing subjects in the 4 areas of convergence/intersection.
See how the subjects' eye is near the intersection of the upper right area?
This makes for a much more visually pleasing image, than if it were dead center.
Utilize this tip and you will start to make stronger, more interesting compositions and therefore better photographs. Enjoy and be inspired! Thanks for everyone's help.
