Today a parent sent a kiddo to school, not realizing it would be the last time.

Today, after securing his students in his classroom after hearing shots in the hallway, a teacher called his wife to say "I love you,” not knowing if it was the last time.

Today, I received an email from the Principal of the Collegiate School for Medicine & Biosciences (CSMB), that the thing we fear most in schools happened in our school, on our campus.

CSMB shares a building with the Central Visual and Performing Arts school (CVPA). As a CSMB board member, I've seen and supported the intentional development of a culture that meets their students’ basic needs-including a sense of safety and belonging- so that students can focus on education and learning. This culture has created cohorts of some of the brightest stars who come from our most underserved communities. I have had the privilege of hosting these students at the Danforth Center and in my own lab every spring.

Today, that sense of safety was shattered.

A few months ago, I heard Councilwoman Webb propose common sense gun laws for St. Louis County. During that Council meeting, Mark Harder talked about how he does not support such policies because 'a gun is just a tool.’

Today, that tool was used to kill students and teachers in their safe place. It was used to shatter the sense of safety of a community of kiddos.

Harder declined an opportunity to protect kids in St. Louis County by supporting common sense gun laws.

Will today be the day you say 'enough' and vote in change?
