“Sleep divorce” is a topic we don’t talk about enough and one that still carries a lot of stigma.

In this podcast clip, you’ll hear about the two main concerns that fuel this stigma.

Sleeping apart doesn’t have to mean growing apart. Sometimes protecting your sleep is also protecting your relationship.

Sleep impacts our mood, mental health, relationships, and overall well-being. But for many couples, getting quality rest together can be a challenge.

I recently joined Grant Swartzwelder on his podcast to talk about “sleep divorce” and why sleeping separately doesn’t have to mean relationship problems. We discussed the stigma of sleep separation and practical ways couples can approach this topic.

If you’ve ever struggled with snoring, different schedules, temperature preferences, or simply getting enough rest, this conversation may resonate with you.

🛏️⛔️🛌Next Wednesday, host Grant Swartzwelder sits down with Katrina Watland, Founder of TrueNorth, to discuss the concept of “sleep divorce,” where couples choose separate sleeping.

The discussion explores the stigma around sleeping separately, the science behind sleep’s role in mental and physical health, and practical ways couples can approach the conversation without creating conflict. From snoring and schedules to temperature preferences and lifestyle differences, Grant and Katrina break down the real reasons couples struggle with shared sleep.

I help people let go of stress, resentment, and emotional weight. I recently learned about Ho’oponopono while watching the show The Pitt, and the concept really stayed with me.

Ho’oponopono is a Hawaiian practice centered on healing, forgiveness, and responsibility. The four simple phrases are:

“I’m sorry.”
“Please forgive me.”
“Thank you.”
“I love you.”

Whether used in relationships or as part of self-reflection, it’s a powerful reminder that healing often begins with compassion toward others and ourselves.

Sometimes the smallest practices create the biggest shifts.

In a world where teens are constantly connected, protecting sleep and creating space to unplug is essential for mental health, focus, and overall well-being.

One simple boundary can make a big difference: no phones in the bedroom at night.

This is one of several practical strategies I share with families to help youth build a healthier relationship with technology use.

As a mental health coach, I’m always paying attention to the conversations we’re not having enough of.

One book I highly recommend is Of Boys and Men by Richard Reeves. It offers a thoughtful, research-based look at the challenges many boys and men are facing today (education, mental health and more), and why it matters for all of us.

This isn’t about shifting focus away from girls and women. It’s about widening the lens so we can better support everyone’s well-being.

Worth the read if you care about healthier boys, men, families, and communities.

“You are not your grand plans. You are your daily patterns.” — James Clear

Real change happens in the small choices we make each day. Our daily patterns shape our mindset, resilience, and well-being.

If you’re ready to shift a few patterns, I’d love to help. Reach out if you’d like to schedule a session.

When you replace "Why is this happening to me?" with "What is this trying to teach me?" everything shifts.

This reframe moves you from powerless to curious. From stuck to growing.

If you need a little help reframing your situation, please reach out to me.
