How Your Child Can Quickly Become the Best Reader They Can Be!

Just because a child gets decent grades doesn’t automatically mean they're a great reader. Reading requires skills and practice to truly excel.

Similar to top professional athletes who train tirelessly to reach their peak performance, students need to develop habits and work ethic to become the best readers they can be. These habits influence every aspect of their learning journey.

Unfortunately, many students haven't cultivated effective study habits because they perceive school as boring or challenging. This negative association makes them reluctant to engage in learning outside of school.

But why don't students invest more time in studying when they know it leads to better results? It's simple - they don't see it as important enough to become a habit.

Consider this analogy: Why do we brush our teeth multiple times daily? It's not because we enjoy it, but because we understand its importance and the consequences of neglecting it. Thus, we develop a routine that ensures we do it consistently.

Similarly, the key to helping students become proficient readers is to rewire their current study habits and work ethic so that they naturally engage in beneficial activities. When learning becomes easier, they naturally enjoy it more and become proficient.

Here's how you can support your child in this journey:

1) Invest in your child's education outside of school to provide accountability and help them develop better habits. For instance, incorporate a nightly story before bed to demonstrate the value of reading.

2) Make learning fun to dispel the notion that studying is 'boring.' Try reading stories in funny voices, dancing along with characters, or creating reading games at home to make learning enjoyable. If you need ideas, feel free to message me.

Most students struggle in reading not because they lack the ability, but because they're often given the wrong strategy to succeed! Just like a sports team that prepares for a game with the wrong tactics isn't likely to win. So, how can you tell if your child has the wrong reading strategy? It's simple... Do any of these situations sound familiar?

1) Do they struggle to read smoothly and confidently?
2) Do they often mispronounce words or struggle with comprehension?
3) Do they lack enthusiasm or interest when it comes to reading?
