☀️ Our Morning Routine: Leveling Up with Hoop Games! ⭕️
Every single morning, my kids and I start our day with a little workout. But let’s be honest—traditional exercises can get boring for kids pretty quickly. That’s why we turn our morning routine into a game!
Lately, our absolute favorite props have been these mini colorful hoops. They are cheap, versatile, and keep the kids moving and laughing.
If you want to spice up your mornings or need some fresh ideas to burn off that toddler energy, here are a few ways we play with them:
🎵 1. The Musical Hoop Freeze
Lay the hoops out in a big circle. Put on some fun music and have the kids move around. You can change up the movement every round: run, hop, crawl on all fours, walk backwards, or sidestep! When the music stops, they have to freeze inside a hoop of a specific color (e.g., "Freeze in Blue!").
🏃♂️ 2. The Hoop Obstacle Course
Line the hoops up in a row to create a path. The challenge is to jump or hop through the path in different ways to reach a "finish line" goal at the end. Great for coordination and balance!
🧱 3. Color Sorting with LEGO
Place different colored hoops around the room. Give the kids a basket of LEGO bricks. They have to match the LEGO color to the correct hoop, running back and forth until the basket is empty. (Bonus: it works for cleaning up, too!).
🧸 4. Ring Toss (Plushie Edition)
Line up their favorite stuffed animals and use the mini hoops as rings. The goal is to toss the hoop so it lands perfectly around the plushie.
🏀 5. Hoop Targets
Hold the hoops up or hang them safely to use as basketball hoops. The kids then practice throwing soft balls right through the center.
🌀 6. Spin & Roll Mastery
We are also practicing classic hoop skills! We're learning how to roll them across the floor like wheels and how to spin them around our arms. It takes practice, but the focus on their faces is priceless.

At our daycare, stories aren’t just read from books—they are born right here, in the moment. Today, I want to share our special love for Shadow Puppetry. 🎭
This isn't just a scripted performance; it’s a space of total freedom and pure imagination. Most of the time, we make up our stories on the fly. We start with a character and a spark of an idea, and we truly don’t know what will happen next! This unpredictability makes it even more exciting for the children (and for us, too!).
Atmospheric Colors. To make the magic feel "real," we love playing with the light. By changing the color of the backdrop—from a mysterious deep blue to a vibrant, fairy-tale pink—we instantly transform the mood of the entire room. 🌈
There are no "wrong" moves—only the flight of fancy. We are learning to feel the moment, listen to one another, and build entire worlds out of thin air.

What a magical St. Patrick’s Day we had! Our daycare was filled with color as we spent the entire day surrounded by rainbows.
We started our morning as little artists, learning how to mix colors to paint our own beautiful rainbows. It was so much fun to see the children’s faces light up as they discovered how primary colors transform! 🎨
Then we played games with rainbows and sang our favorite rainbow song while ringing our colorful rainbow bells. the sound was as bright as the colors around us! 🔔🌈
To top off the celebration, we took the fun outside for some festive math. The children turned into little treasure hunters, solving number puzzles and counting their way through the yard to find the hidden "gold." ☘️💰

Our weekly park tradition is in full swing! From rock climbing and nature treasure hunting to kicking a ball and flying kites, we make sure our kids get plenty of Vitamin D and fresh air.
Local parks aren't just a place to play—they are a place to grow. We love our little community and the adventures it offers!

Spring is in the air, and we’ve had the most incredible week celebrating Maslenitsa—the traditional festival marking the end of winter and the arrival of the spring!
At Kukaryamba, we believe the best way to learn is through hands-on fun and a lot of laughter. Our little explorers dived head-first into the festivities:
- From Paper to Pancakes: We started by crafting colorful paper crepes, but the real magic happened in the kitchen! The children helped mix the ingredients and watched as we flipped delicious, golden crepes. There’s nothing like the smell of fresh blini to get everyone in the holiday spirit! 😋
- Catching the Sun: We turned our windows into works of art! By building a vibrant "stained glass" sun out of magnetic blocks, we got to watch the California sunshine dance through the colors. We also made adorable suns out of plates to brighten up our classroom. 🎨✨
- Folk Games & High Jumps: The energy was electric! We whirled around with our colorful ribbon carousel and kept the traditions alive with spirited folk games. And of course, no Maslenitsa is complete without the highlight of the day: jumping over our (perfectly safe!) "bonfire" and saying goodbye to the winter effigy! 🔥
It was a week filled with joy and creativity. We love bringing these beautiful traditions to life for our kids!

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for the grown-ups! ❤️
In our daycare, this day holds a very special meaning. Right here within the walls of Kukaryamba Family Daycare, our little ones are taking their first steps in the beautiful art of friendship.
Watching them share their favorite toys, give big hugs when they arrive, and comfort each other when someone is feeling down is a true miracle. These small gestures of kindness are the seeds of the strong, sincere friendships that they will carry through their childhood.
We teach our children to be kind, attentive, and to cherish those around them. May their little hearts always be full of warmth!

In our daycare, birthdays are "knead-to-know" events! 😉
We skipped the delivery boxes and started a tradition where the children cook their own birthday pizza. It’s messy, it’s delicious, and the kids absolutely love being "little chefs" for the day.
It’s not just lunch; it’s a sensory experience and a way to celebrate our little ones' special day with a personal touch.

Winter days can be a bit tricky! Between the frequent rain showers and the sun setting so early, our outdoor playtime often gets cut short. But at Kukaryamba, we don’t let the gray skies dampen our spirits. In fact, we’ve found a silver any-weather lining!
When it’s too wet or dark to run around the yard, we dim the lights, pull the curtains, and bring out something truly special: vintage filmstrips (Diafilms). 📽️✨
I’ve kept these treasures from my own childhood, and there is something incredibly moving about sharing them with the next generation. Unlike the fast-paced screens of today, these slow, glowing images create a sense of wonder and calm. The children sit mesmerized, watching the stories unfold frame by frame on the wall.
It’s proof that sometimes, the best way to brighten a dark evening is with a little bit of old-school magic. 🎞️❤️
