Our Young STEAMers explored the science behind sunsets; how sunlight travels through our atmosphere and scatters into warm reds, oranges, and pinks at the end of the day.

After learning why the sky changes color, they built their own paper sunsets, layering construction‑paper hues just like the real evening sky!

It was a bright, fun and colorful lesson - proof that learning all about the science behind our world can be fun! 🌅

Our instructor spotlight shines on Maddie! ✨

Maddie is from the East Bay Area and currently studies chemistry at UC Berkeley, where her love for science keeps her exploring new ideas every day. Teaching has always been one of her passions, she’s coached youth figure skating, tutored chemistry students, and loves helping learners feel confident and excited about trying something new.

As a lifelong artist, Maddie is especially drawn to the connection between STEM and art. She even managed her high school’s art gallery, where she helped curate shows that blended creativity with scientific thinking.

When she’s not in the classroom, you’ll find Maddie figure skating, drawing, or listening to music, all things that keep her inspired and energized.

We’re so grateful for the joy, patience, and creativity she brings to our Young STEAMers community. 💛✨

Ending the week with a STEAM throwback to one of our favorite lessons, the roller coaster challenge!

Our students used simple materials like pool noodles, paper, and cardboard to design marble tracks while learning real physics concepts like potential and kinetic energy.

Investing in students creates opportunities that last.

A heartfelt thank you to IRIS (Internships and Research for Inquisitive Students) for supporting Young STEAMers and helping create meaningful learning opportunities for Bay Area students.

Through our collaboration with SOMOS Mayfair, students had the opportunity to explore, create, and discover in an engaging environment that fostered curiosity, creativity, and confidence.

We're grateful for IRIS's support and commitment to expanding opportunities for young learners. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping make experiences like these possible. 💜

Petals, stems, pollen..... 🌺 🌹🌻

This lesson was all about the beauty and importance of flowers!

Flowers quietly do a lot of behind‑the‑scenes work for the planet; feeding pollinators, keeping ecosystems balanced, and reminding us that nature stays healthy through the simplest things.

Growing tomorrow's problem solvers starts with opportunity.

Thanks to The Nicholson Family Foundation, more Bay Area students are exploring science, engineering, and creative problem-solving through free STEAM enrichment.

With support from the Meta Local Community Fund, Young STEAMers partnered with KIPP Valiant Community Prep, serving students from Menlo Park and the Belle Haven neighborhood of East Palo Alto. 🧪

From extracting strawberry DNA to exploring plant ecosystems, students engaged directly with complex scientific concepts usually reserved for older grades. 🧬

Meta’s investment has already created impact beyond the pilot program, as we’re preparing an expanded program across additional grade levels for the upcoming school year!

Thank you, Meta Local Community Fund, for investing in sustainable educational access for youth in San Mateo County. 🌱
