Summer adventures can bring exciting opportunities to explore new places, but they can also present challenges for children who may wander or become separated from caregivers.

Planning ahead can help keep outings safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Helpful tips:
✅ Use identification bracelets, tags, or safety cards
✅ Review a family safety plan before outings
✅ Take recent photos before visiting crowded locations
✅ Establish meeting points when appropriate
✅ Maintain close supervision in unfamiliar environments

🌿Introducing the SADA Summer Safety Series!🌿

Summer is a time for outdoor adventures, family activities, and making lasting memories. Throughout the next few weeks, SADA will be sharing practical safety tips and resources to help children with developmental disabilities enjoy a safe, supported, and successful summer.

☀️ Week 1: Hydration & Heat Safety 💧

Children may not always recognize when they're thirsty or becoming overheated. During hot summer days, frequent water breaks, access to shade, and cooling periods can help prevent heat-related illnesses.

Here are a few simple reminders:
✅ Offer water regularly, even before your child asks for it
✅ Schedule breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
✅ Dress for the weather with lightweight clothing
✅ Watch for signs of overheating, including fatigue, dizziness, or irritability

Small steps can make a big difference in keeping summer fun and safe for everyone.
