The penultimate day of the seminar saw some incredible presentations by participants who are heading home tomorrow with some really innovative and interdisciplinary new lesson plans for teaching the First World War. We're looking forward to hearing about their students' reactions as they share the seminar materials in their classrooms in the year ahead! We closed the day out with an evening visit to Antietam where we considered again the meaning of sites of war memory as we strolled the battlefield and visited the World War I graves at the cemetery. An engaging evening of conversation indeed!

Day 10 saw us at the U.S. Army Heritage Education Center in Carlisle, PA, where we visited a mock WWI trench, a great museum exhibit on American experiences of the Great War, and the Amry archives. Our participants made some great finds among wartime photos, field reports and postwar surveys!

Day 8 took us to Memorial Park in Frederick, MD, where we explored ways to teach about local memories of war with memorials expert Dr. Jennifer Wingate!

Day 6 of the seminar took us to Washington, DC for a tour of World War I-related exhibits and memorials, including the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Argonne Cross at Arlington National Cemetery, and the District of Columbia War Memorial. It was an exciting, if warm, day filled with lots of great conversations about how we remember and teach the memory of the First World War.
