ABOUT THE FRYSC PROGRAM
Family Resource Centers were created in 1990 by the Kentucky Education Reform Act (KERA). These school-based centers, also known as FRCs, are designed to promote local identification, coordination, and utilization of community resources to help break down barriers to learning which in turn should enhance students' ability to

succeed in school. Family Resource Centers serve children from birth through twelve years of age. FRCs are funded through a grant administered by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, provided by state education funds through the Kentucky Department of Education. Schools must have at least 20% of their students receiving free and reduced school meals in order to qualify for a center. Each center has a unique blend of program components depending on location, available services, local need and community input. FRCs must address the following components:

- Preschool Child Care For Children Two And Three Years Of Age
- After School Child Care
- Families-In-Training (Ages Birth To Five)
- Parent And Child Education (Family Literacy)
- Health Services Or Referrals To Health Services

In addition, centers choose optional components to address specific needs. The optional component for the Westridge Elementary FRC is Educational Support.

Families,

Please take the time to fill out the 26-27 Household Income Forms. These forms help determine funding for the Family Resource Center as well as helping us maintain our status as a Title 1 school and with providing free breakfast and lunch for all students.

While these forms may feel intrusive when asking about your finances, they are strictly confidential and the information you provide is secure. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to the Family Resource Center. Thanks so much for your support of the Center.

Spending the first part of the week touring the Milton Hershey School with other FRYSCs across the state. It’s an incredible place that provides K-12th grade students educational opportunities that never may have seemed possible. They specifically serve middle and lower income families providing an education, living arrangements, extra curricular activities, and connections to future endeavors whether that is college or work force opportunities.

Of course we had to make a stop at Hershey’s Chocolate World to get some goodies.
