Role-play Listening, Speaking, and Pronunciation for Low-Tech Learners (Fri Aug 7, 3pm)
Do you teach students with low-tech skills? With lowproficiency in English language skills? Are you concerned about how to reachthem remotely via video conferencing? Part 1: Participants who join thisinteractive workshop will first role-play a low-tech ESL student of low tointermediate level of language proficiency, embracing their characteristics. Pleasebring paper, a pencil, a pen, a marker, an ESL book, a bowl, a ball, a cap, anda cup. In Part 1, “students” are instructed and guided through several learningactivities to practice listening, speaking, and pronunciation skills. Would you like to develop greater capability and confidenceusing Zoom to teach students? In this hands-on workshop, teachers are guided throughthe basics of using Zoom to teach, with comparisons of views from the host's (teacher's) and students’ perspectives, on a computer and an iPhone, in Basic and Pro versions. Imagesillustrate functions of actions that are most useful in instruction, such asaudio and video broadcasting, screen sharing, text chatting, breakout groups,and polling. Participants may practice acting as host. Steps for setting up aprofile as a Host will be outlined and suggested settings for working with studentswill be shared.

On Thursday, November 18th at 5:00 pm, the CATESOL OC Chapter and the CSUF TESOL Club will co-host a virtual career event called, "A Closer Look: Careers in Supporting ELLS." Our experienced panelists will offer career advice for those starting out or hoping to find new opportunities in the ESOL field.
