I taught my 4-year-old son piano for a year, and together we completed six books from the My First Piano Adventure series.
But looking back, finishing six books was never the most important part.
What surprised me most was watching how music helped him develop patience, confidence, focus, and the ability to express himself.
As a piano teacher, I used to think a lot about how much a child could learn.
As a mother, I’ve started to think more about how a child learns — and how we can help them enjoy the process without turning music into pressure.
Every child has a different pace. Some children need more time, more encouragement, or simply a different way of learning.
For me, the goal of early music education isn’t just to raise a child who can play the piano.
It’s to help children discover that they are capable of learning something difficult, making mistakes, trying again, and eventually creating something beautiful.
And sometimes, that journey matters much more than how many books they finish. 🎹✨
