The third annual Vision Science Symposium is two months away!

Dr. Carla Siegfried, The Jacquelyn E. and Allan E. Kolker, MD Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Vice Chair for Strategic Initiatives at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., will be our keynote speaker. Dr. Siegfried will present on "From Bedside to Bench: The Story of Oxygen and Insights into Glaucoma *(and Cataract)." Last Thursday, Dr. Dimitrios Karamichos, NTERI’s Executive Director, was invited to speak at the University of Houston College of Optometry's Periopsia lecture series. Dr. Karamichos presented on "Keratoconus: Bridging basic science and pre-clinical discovery.”

Preventative eye exams go hand-in-hand with every back to school checklist. With students heading back into the classroom for the new school year, there is a rush to ensure that children have everything they need for success.

We asked Dr. Dimitrios Karamichos, Executive Director, NTERI, and Dr. Hongli Wu, NTERI Faculty, about the importance of children's eye health and the importance of routine eye exams.

At the upcoming 2026 ISER Meeting in Valencia, five NTERI faculty members - Dr. Suchismita Acharya, Dr. Abe Clark, Dr. Denise Inman, Dr. Raghu Krishnamoorthy, and Dr. Hongli Wu - will be attending and presenting their research. This is a big honor for our faculty members to present their research at this international eye research meeting and is a testament to the quality of science being done at NTERI.

Last Friday, clinicians, residents, and interns from the Fort Worth Eye Associates, Community Eye Clinic, Alcon's Children Vision Center, and the NTERI team participated in the Scholars in Visual Sciences event on the UNT Health Fort Worth campus.

Attendees heard from NTERI trainees and students, TCOM students, Dr. Ann Ranelle, President, Fort Worth Eye Associates, Interns from Fort Worth Eye Associates, Dr. Jennifer Deakins, Medical Director, Community Eye Clinic, and Dr. Angela Hembree, Ocular Disease Optometry Resident.

Congratulations to Rajiv Rangan, a student in Dr. Abe Clark's lab, for successfully defending his Ph.D. dissertation with distinction. Rajiv's dissertation was titled, "Monoaminylation in Glaucoma and Beyond."

Rajiv's committee consisted of Dr. Tara Tovar-Vidales, Dr. Cameron Millar, Dr. Denise Inman, Dr. Yang Liu, and Dr. Rehana Lovely.
